"OPERATION SANTA"
Sponsored By
The Hillview Police Officers' Association
Operation Santa is an annual event sponsored by the Hillview Police Officers' Association. The Hillview Police Department solicits local businesses for donations and mans roadblocks collecting your spare change to make this program possible. The program made its' debut during the holiday season of 1985, and started with just 8 food baskets for several needy families in the area.
We have certainly came a long way since those first few baskets were made. Last year with help from local businesses and the North Bullitt High School ROTC we had over 400 food baskets for needy Bullitt Countians. This year we plan to continue the tradition .......
Not only does " Operation Santa" provide baskets, we also try to provide at least one Christmas gift for each child enrolled in our program. To help make this possible, we look to our local elementary schools. Many children have opted to forego the annual gift exchange at school and instead donate a new toy to Operation Santa. The schools that participated this year were Overdale Elementary, Maryville Elementary, Brooks Elementary, and Freedom Elementary.
We get names of needy families from our local schools family resource centers, the Bullitt County Department of Human Resources, local churches, and from individuals. We try to make sure that no one in need is turned away. We do, however, check our applicants. This ensures that we can help as many families as possible.
" Operation Santa " has become a Bullitt County/Hillview tradition. We appreciate all of the community support this program receives and look forward to working with you in the future.
